Re: The Most Frequently Misquoted Verse in the Bible
Hi Dizerner, Coming from the perspective of an "outsider" I am not surprised to hear you say that. But I'll lay out the "biggies" that the average JW would view as "basic truths" and perhaps this will clarify. This is in no particular order, and does NOT include moral views (JWs hold to a fairly st...

Hi Darin, The following is by way of a friend, the comments are his. He only briefly touches on your question, but I thought the ideas were worthy of sharing: The next event narrated in the account took place in Bethany, a short distance from Jerusalem. This could suggest that Jesus was questioned ...

Re: The Most Frequently Misquoted Verse in the Bible
Hi Doug, I think you are mistaken here. I am not suggesting that I have a better view, nor do I need one to point out the flaws in yours. What I am saying is, that literal "souls" (whatever those are) needn't be under the altar. I find it remarkable that someone that goes to great lengths to view a...

Re: The Most Frequently Misquoted Verse in the Bible
I think these souls under the alter were symbolic. I don't think the Apocalypse was conveying the idea of thousands on disembodied souls laying under an alter in Heaven crying out as something literal. Souls could also mean blood, or lives, as the Scriptures tell us that life (or soul) is in the bl...

Re: Hello there, I'm an atheist
The "viability" and "use of body" arguments have never really interested nor impressed me. Anyone with children knows they aren't truly "viable" until about age 4. Maybe one could take an exceptionally bright child and find them nuking a box of mac and cheese at age 3. But they'd still need the box...

Re: Is satan dumb?
Hi Dizerner, I understand. :( As far as my personal view on Satan; I have never considered him "stupid", but perhaps mad. I am not of the school of thought that God created Satan as a "tester"--a tool for certain uses to be ultimately discarded like a worn out screwdriver. I think that he believes ...

Re: Is satan dumb?
I'm not sure i can even imagine an earthly father that would take upon himself the punishment his son deserved, but what a love that would be Hi Dizerner, Not trying to be snarky, but from this comment I conclude you do not have children. I can think of a great many parents that would willingly und...

Re: Gospel Editing Precludes Divine Inspiration
Hi Dizerner, I don't know what to say. You may want to do some reading as to the practice of divorce and adultery in the Jewish culture in the 1st century. It may put a new "spin" on Jesus' words "A wicked and adulterous generation." I am not saying that the nation of Israel was full of degenerates...

Re: Gospel Editing Precludes Divine Inspiration
Hi Steve, I didn't. I said that the practice of warriors, past and present, was to take spoils of war, and those spoils included raping women, especially young virgins. I see the provision for this kind of marriage as a concession, much as Jesus called divorce a "concession." The Israelite soldiers...
