Family Demons?

My step-mother's mother passed away recently. While I would not paint everyone with mental illness as demon possessed or influenced, I might make an exception for her. Although I met her only once, combined with some anecdotal stories, I could believe her possessed or influenced.

My question is if demons could be familial or by territory or what? I am concerned with my Dad as well as his wife. I am on the look-out for stranger than usual behavior on her part.

Neither of them are Christian.
