Service ministries

Post by christopher » Tue Feb 23, 2010 1:50 pm

Hey all,

I'm compiling kind of a starter list for myself and my church community of local service ministries for people to get involved with if they feel so led (Christian or non-Christian). I'm looking for feedback on your favorite hands-on service/helps ministries in your area (perhaps they have affiliates here). I'm especially interested in those that kids can be involved with, but I'm looking for others as well.

Homer, you already mentioned Love INC in another thread. I checked it out and it's pretty solid ministry in our area brother :) ...thanks for the tip.

I have so far:

Meals on wheels/Loaves and Fishes
Portland Rescue Mission
Oregon Food Bank
Prison Fellowship
Love INC
Oregon Hospice Association
Volunteers of America
Union Gospel Mission
Pregnancy Resource Centers

Any Others?

Community Visitors Scheme
- volunteers are matched (one on one) to regularly visit with a nursing home resident who has NO other family or friends in area to visit.
