Just a couple of thoughts about the forum tools...
1. Does anyone use the Verse Tool at the top or know about it?
2. Does anyone have any thoughts about other tools that would be useful for everyone?
I find the best new ideas are the ones where you think, "I really wish I had X." I'm not saying I can actually do the suggestions, but I like ideas so that when I have downtime I can do something useful.

Re: Forum tools
I haven't been here that long, but I haven't used the verse tools yet. (I don't know what they do.)
I was just thinking today that it would be cool if a word/phrase in a post with an exact match in another thread title would hyperlink to that thread, like a wikipedia article.
The forum looks good and is easy to use!

Re: Forum tools
I had never noticed the verse tool! And in 6 different translations!
I just experimented with it for the first time. I clicked on "show" and then could read any verse. This is handy when people just give a reference in their posts. You can look it up more quickly than you can by using other means.
Thanks for bringing this up, Jarrod.

Man judges a person by his past deeds, and administers penalties for his wrongdoing. God judges a person by his present character, and disciplines him that he may become righteous.

I'd never noticed the verse or verseblock buttons! Pretty cool! Any way you could add HCSB or God's Word (GW)? If not it's no big deal, there are 6 to choose from . On my wordpress blog I have a plugin that displays the verse in a popup when you hover over the reference and when you move the cursor away it disappears. That might be cool here.
Let me boldly state the obvious. If you are not sure whether you heard directly from God, you didn’t.

That's not a bad idea! I like it. I'll have to think through the technicalities on that.psimmond wrote:On my wordpress blog I have a plugin that displays the verse in a popup when you hover over the reference and when you move the cursor away it disappears. That might be cool here.

Re: Forum tools
Something else I noticed - and just ignore this if it's stupid or whatever - is that at least one relatively common word in here is not recognized by the spell checker: Arminianism (or Arminian).
There are probably others. Maybe there's a dictionary of words that can be added to the forum settings that will be checked by the spellchecker (just as it excludes certain words)?
Also, user names like mine get the red squiggly line too. You'd think it would check the list of user names, but I guess not. Maybe be it could?
That's all.
Thanks.

Re: Forum tools
It would be nice if the email notification of a new post in a subscribed topic, would include the author and text of the new post. Some forums do that; it's handy if you want to read the post right away but don't have time to reply at the moment, or if you want to save the notification for future reference and want more of a reminder that just the subject.

The spell checker is actually in your browser, not the forum. If you right-click on a word, it should let you add it to its dictionary.Singalphile wrote:at least one relatively common word in here is not recognized by the spell checker: Arminianism (or Arminian).
