Generational Sin

Post by darinhouston » Wed Jan 14, 2015 4:21 pm

I recall a SG radio snippet or lecture about generational sin and that sort of thing, but can't find anything. Ring any bells?

It rings a whole lot of bells! The concept is based on the following verse:
... keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.” (Exodus 34:7 ESV)
I think interpreting this as a generational curse upon the sinner's offspring to the third and fourth generation is a huge mistake.

I have a book by Gilbert James entitled The Myth of the Generational Curse. It explains a lot. This book is available at Amazon:

Man judges a person by his past deeds, and administers penalties for his wrongdoing. God judges a person by his present character, and disciplines him that he may become righteous.
