Right vs. Left

Post by dwight92070 » Fri Aug 18, 2017 9:10 am

American conservatives (the Right), want to conserve the principles of the American Revolution. These are: 1. Economic freedom or capitalism; 2.Political freedom or constitutional democracy; and 3. Freedom of speech and religion. They believe the biggest threat to freedom comes from the federal government, as did the founders.

American progressives (the left), are hostile to the restrictions placed by the founders on the federal government. They deplore constitutional restraints on government power, proclaiming the Constitution woefully out of date and calling for us to adopt instead a "living Constitution" - a Constitution adapted to what the Left considers progressive. (formerly known as "liberal") What they mean is progress toward greater federal power and federal control. Progressives are champions of the power of the centralized state.

These are quotes from "The Big Lie" by Dinesh D'Souza.

The left wants what they see as "social justice" through "human rights" and they think the government should insure even impose these principals. They care about "equality" and they hate capitalism because it promotes winners and losers instead of equality.

That's the way right wingers look at it. The left sees it differently.

The left sees capitalism as a system that concentrates wealth in the hands of the rich, with resulting loss for the poor and middle class. Thus under capitalism the rich keep getting richer and the poor and middle class keep getting poorer.

It is not equality that the left wants (that's communism). The left seeks equal opportunity.

I want equal opportunity but i think the left is destructive, so although some may say equal opportunity they really mean equality because their policies are geared toward that. Yes it's communism and often there is not much difference between "the left" and communism, just a few degrees.

Dwight: So, you believe it's a zero-sum game. If one man gets rich, that causes another man to get poor? As if there is only a finite amount of money? I don't believe that is reality. I remember people telling us years ago that there is only a finite amount of oil on the earth, so when it runs out, that's it. Today we know we have enough for hundreds, maybe thousands of years.

Thus under capitalism the rich keep getting richer and the poor and middle class keep getting poorer.

Dwight: Again, I believe the reality is that you are describing what happens under socialism, not true capitalism.

It is not equality that the left wants (that's communism).

Dwight: Again, the reality is that the left constantly cries out for equality. They want gays to have marriage rights equal to heterosexuals. They want equal pay for women. They want women to be equal to men in combat. It seems to me that you want all people to have equal incomes. They want all college students to have equality in their grades, even though they all don't deserve it. They want all people to have "equality" of opinion, such as global warming or climate change, acceptance of gay marriage, acceptance of evolution, etc., etc. They want all athlete's to get the same award, even though not all deserve that.

The left seeks equal opportunity.
Dwight: That sounds like something someone on the right would say.

Obama - No world order that elevates one nation or group of people over another will succeed. The Left wants equality of nations.

My banker left Pakistan 17 years ago, and is a Christian. He said Christians have no "rights" there. He was finally able to get his wife here after 16 years. He also said people here (leftist thugs in Virginia) have no clue what is like in a country like that, and how well off we are here. So much for equality among nations.

We may never recover from the Obama years with regard to racial tension he inflicted on the country.

Ronald Reagan said we are the last stand on earth for freedom. If we drop the banner, who will pick it up?
You can revel in Obama nonsense, but answer that question.

Dwight, you have quoted me and responded, and that's okay. But I am not here to argue anything. You may or may not know that I will never argue or even discuss anything on this forum again.

However, I do come on occasionally to provide information. And I believe I have provided true information concerning the position of the moderate left.

Dwight: There's nothing moderate about the left. They are the extremists, the anti-Constitutionalists, the anti-Semites, the anti-Christians.

To be fair. My parents were Democrats and never hated anyone. Most Democrats that were alive during WW2 think FDR is still running things. They don't realize that their party no longer exists.
