Chat for FBF?

Post by _Rae » Sat Apr 05, 2008 8:46 pm

Why don't we have a live IRC channel or something for those on the forum? That would be fun! Have any of you guys tried that/set that up before?

I have trouble enough with my sentence structures as it is. Can you imagine how bad it would be if I had to do it on the fly?

My concern would be two-fold (yet related).

First, there is less of a filter in place if there is no record or public discussion. Second, it tends towards quips and flip comments and usually tends to criticism rather than honest dialogue.

Also, it limits participation to real-time online availability.

If you want, give it a try -- there's really nothing to set up -- go to a publicly available server and add a channel and announce it here. If it devolves, we can quit using it.

It would add an interesting dynamic during or immediately following the radio show (though many of us only listen through archive as we are at work during the broadcast).

Its been a long time ago, but Talk City used to be a good one and ParaChat is a free one.

If you have a computer that's Windows 98, SECOND Edition or newer, Paltalk would be the way to go, imo. It has text and voice (but I have Windows 98, FIRST Edition, so can't do that).

Btw, I used to play Steve's Romans and Revelation lectures in my Paltalk room...when I could get in there, that is.

Before summer I should have a computer with XP and will definitely be back in Paltalk.

Just an idea for y'all to consider.
