Pete,

Try here:

http://www.aletheia.proboards76.com/ind ... thread=278

I think that might be the same essay you're looking for, but I'm not positive. I'll know more once Josh answers my PM.

Thanks Chris,
Christopher wrote: BTW, have you played around with phpBB at all? If so, what do you think of the suggestion I made about the guest accounts with the old userid's to replace the posts that are lost. I have a feeling they're still there, but without a proper reference to a user so they're just not returning in the query of the threads.
I am not familiar with phpBB. It is database driven, so the post I'm searching for could be a way of identifying whether the database still contains the missing posts. I would propose:

1. make an ascii dump of the entire database.
2. search text from this post in the ascii file.

If it is found, then we know the posts at least still exist. It would take investigation of the table structure to find out where the missing cross-references are at. The idea of the missing user might very well be right.

In postgresql, I believe it's pgdump

pg_dump mydb > db.out

If you're on a *nix or mac, you can just pipe the output to grep to search for something like bshow1, which was uniquely in the missing posts.

pg_dump mydb | grep bshow1

(obviously, mydb is your database name).
