I received several questions from one of our students, which might interest other students who are planning to come to the school. Therefore, I am posting the questions and the answers:
Hello Steve,
One week left! I'm excited for this summer, but I have a couple questions if you would be so kind to email me back or post an update on your website.
What time is the orientation? My dad wanted to caravan to Monroe with me to check things out and we wanted to know when we should arrive on Sat. the 12th.
The orientation will be at 7:00 PM, Saturday, June 12th. There will be dinner before that. I would like for students to try to get to the facilities by around 3:00 PM that day, in order to get settled in a bit and to meet the other students. By orientation time, you should all have become lifetime friends!
I might mention that there are approximately the same number of men as of women. Also the ages of the students range from 16 to >70. Quite a variety. Students are coming from all over the country, as well as a few other countries. It will be a diverse community, but I think everyone will blend well because of the common interest in studying the Word of God. I am excited about it.
Do you mind NKJV bibles with study notes? I don't know if that would be cheating, or if you would prefer that I didn't use them.
You may bring any study helps with you that you would like to have, including study Bible(s). However, I would highly recommend that you also bring a NKJV with you that does not have study notes in it. There will be times when you will want to be reading for understanding without being influenced by notes and subject headings, etc. On the other hand, having study helps for your extracurricular study may be very desirable. If you do not have one now, you might wish to obtain a wide-margin NKJV, so you can write your own notes in the margins. Depending on the kind of cover you want, you can find them at prices ranging from $45 to $182 at
http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywor ... d6ofvkk4_bIs there anything I should bring that may not be obvious? I'm not very concerned with packing, as I am within easy driving distance to home. However, maybe someone who is out of state/country might want some ideas.
Mostly the obvious. A partial checklist might include:
Pens and pencils (if you write in your Bible margin, you might want to start out with pencil (in case you later change your opinions!)
Binder(s) with paper (unless you do all your note-taking on your laptop computer).
All necessary bedding (for twin beds)
At least a week's worth of changes of clothing (there are laundry machines, but they take coins, and you will not want to have to do laundry more than once a week)
Toiletries.
Musical instruments, if you play them.
Preferably, you should be able to fit everything into one or two suitcases. There are closets for hanging clothes in the rooms (bring your own hangers), but there are not dressers (I suppose, if you wished to bring a dresser with you, it would be permissible). Most, I expect, will be living primarily out of their luggage.
