Steve,

Is there any new information on this? I was wondering if you'd picked a venue yet.

Actually, I am not involved in making those plans. When it comes to debates, I just show up. All plans have to be made by others. I have not heard of the venue yet. It is supposed to happen in September. That's about as much as I have been told.

Here is what Preston is publishing as the details:

Announcing
A Public Religious Debate!

Dates: September 6-8, 2013

Place: Denver, Colorado– Venue is: Wingate by Wyndham Greenwood Village/Denver Tech. 8000 East Peakview, Greenwood Village, CO 80111 US.
Book online or call: 1-800-337-0077
http://www.wingatedenver.com

Topic: Did the Second Coming of Christ occur in AD 70, or, Is It Future?

Disputants:
Dr. Don K. Preston, President, Preterist Research Institute, of Ardmore, Ok., will affirm that Christ came, at the end of the Old Covenant Jewish age, with the destruction Jerusalem in AD 70.

Steve Gregg, popular radio host and editor of the book, Four Views of Revelation, will affirm that Christ will come at the end of the current Christian age.

The “preterist” (meaning “fulfilled”) view of Bible prophecy is the fastest growing view of “last things.” Dr. Preston does not believe that we are in the last days, or that the Christian age will ever end.

Steve Gregg believes that time and the Christian age will end one day.

Both Preston and Gregg are highly respected scholars in their respective worlds. This promises to be a gentlemanly, honorable, challenging and exciting exchange.

Registration details will be announced later

On Saturday morning, there will be a two hour Q and A session with Gregg and Preston answering questions submitted the previous two days.

Come be a part of this exciting, informative and challenging event!

It should be an interesting debate!

Preterist versus Ultra-Preterist.

Full-preterism is not as popular in my real life as it seems to be on the internet. Indeed, I have only encountered full-preterism on the internet. I've never actually met a full-preterist. I wonder how far of a reach this teaching actually has. I have my suspicions that a quote like the one above depends on the emergence of all forms of preterism in order to make the statement valid.

I too would be interested to see some numbers on the growth of such things, but I don't think anyone is keeping any. I'm also not sure what Steve's position is going to be in the debate, so I don't know if it's going to be partial-preterist v. full preterist, or something like a traditional end vs. full preterist indefinite end. It turns out that the end game of Amillennialists (and Postmillennialists as far as I know) who are partial preterists is not much different than those who are idealists (they both expect and end of time after a cluster of events that looks somewhat like the tribulation and Second Coming paradigm of premillennialists). Premillennialists have a completely different end game because they posit an infinite amount of time on a rebuilt earth after the New Heavens and New Earth are established. That far end of the spectrum is seldom written much about, but since it represents what we are supposed to be looking forward to for the rest of existence after our natural lives I wish people would study it in more detail.

First night recap:

Both participants were enjoyable to listen to and I think the audience is getting a lot out of the discussion. Don started by focusing on 2nd Thessalonians and the night seemed to evolve into connected verses in Isaiah 2-4, 1st Thessalonians, 1st Corinthians, and Matthew 24. Steve's responses were based on pointing out that the limited scope of the audience that Don was assuming was not required by the text, and that nailing down a historical fulfillment in line with what the text seems to predict is very difficult. Tomorrow night is Steve's affirmative argument. I hope anyone in the Denver area takes the opportunity to see the debate in action.
