I do not think we "know" that. We know many scholars think they know that but there are other views about how Mark ends and how it got that way. Perhaps there is a part missing.

Irenaeus didn't know it, since he quoted part of it in his letter dated before the earliest manuscripts.

In re-reading that portion, it doesn't lead me to believe that those not believing, but rather that those dis-believing, will perish. Either way, the close of Mark still doesn't matter.
