Re: Does God still inflict national or generational judgment

@Ian. Thanks. That was a really good discussion you linked me to. My original question has been lost in the background noise of the conflict regarding universalism. That previous thread mostly referred to the devil's influence in Haiti, more than God. It does seem that Pat Robertson was playing the ...

Re: Does God still inflict national or generational judgment

I don't have a horse in this race.. obviously this is a long-standing feud that I set off. My one input.. There is a lot to be said for a god who is bigger than my understanding. It reminds me of the old saw, "God is God and I'm not." We shouldn't be surprised if the 66 books of the Bible are compli...

Re: Does God still inflict national or generational judgment

@steve.

Thanks for chiming in.

Do you think God still does this? How would we know which event to interpret as God's judgment? Are there still prophets? Paidon pointed out that David Wilkerson had failed prophecies, and I believe that inerrancy is a qualification.

Re: Does God still inflict national or generational judgment

Paidon.. you made my point.. which is that given (which you don't) that national calamities were sometimes (not all) interpreted by prophets as judgment by God.. who could we trust today. If the slaughter of Jews in Nazi Germany were God's judgment, then people could think they could just proclaim i...

Does God still inflict national or generational judgment

On Steve's May 22nd, he mentioned the destruction of Jerusalem as the national or generational judgment of the nation of Israel. Do you think that God still does this? I have said before that in the Old Testament, a hurricane, or event like 9/11 might be interpreted as God's judgment. The difference...

Christ vs. Messiah

I understand that Christ is the Greek translation of Messiah. I am wondering if its usage changed from the expected prophecied king, the Messiah, that the Jews were awaiting. it seems that post-easter, the term became Jesus' last name and it lost its messianic prophetic meaning. Is this the case? Is...

What servant leadership is and isn't

I've been collecting some of my thoughts on congregational ministry having the perspective of time looking back at the churches I've pastored. I'm not cynical.. rather, I think that it is a path fraught with peril for young men who feel called to minister. I am quite certain that the majority of men...

Re: Why is Jesus' divinity not recorded in Mark?

Another point that has struck me during this investigation is that we can be more flexible with others regarding theology because the gospel recorded in Mark and many of the Pauline epistles are not as dogmatic as the creeds and confessions that have defined our churches. I don't know if this is an ...

Re: Why is Jesus' divinity not recorded in Mark?

I unfortunately lack time at the moment... headed to a cabin without internet after about 4:00pm pst. The conclusion that I would offer is that Jesus is the first-born creation of God. In other words, all those titles and comments you gave in Mark can apply to the most significant creation of God, w...
