Re: What is Bible's view of marrying stepmother?

The Bible doesn't really address "blended families" directly. But I think the issue goes beyond genetics. If the woman truly served as the boy's mother for any length of time, then to him she has become a parent in more than name. What if he was only 3 when his own mother died and his father remarri...

Re: Marriage of a Christian and non-Christian forbidden?

Thank you. I came across the 1 Cor 7:39 in other searches, but some people said that the meaning of it is ambiguous. I wonder if someone could shed light on the various takes on "only in the Lord" (I used the ESV) and the support for the interpretation that this means to only marry a Christian. I of...

Re: A Defense of Monogamous Homosexual 'Marriage'

Somehow I did not receive notifications that people had replied in the thread. I apologize for my late response. if the friend is a Christian I'd still want to reason at least largely from the scriptures. Maybe not only from the scriptures, as you say, but they would be my first and last word. I spe...

Marriage of a Christian and non-Christian forbidden?

Could someone lay out the Biblical grounds for the idea that a Christian may not marry a non-Christian? I recently told someone that the Bible forbids this and received this reply: except that no one really knows what the hell writers meant when they wrote it and thus some very conservative types wo...

Re: Does this annoy anybody else?

I think it would be more honorable if you simply addressed your concerns in an adult fashion. Engage Steve on the subject. Help him understand the effect that long rambling unfocused blathering turns you off the show. Steve is far from a pushover despite his gentle demeanor. While at times I think h...

Re: A Defense of Monogamous Homosexual 'Marriage'

In your analogy with the friend, I am not the one considering the sin, but the friend being turned to who is arguing against it. If the friend just says "won't talk about it" then the conversation is over. But if the friend keeps engaging and arguing why sex outside of marriage is wrong... I see no ...

My point was that I am not so convinced that not talking about the subject is really the highest good here.

Re: Does this annoy anybody else?

Steve also told me that his call screener is just a radio station employee without any particular aptitude or interest for helping out the program. This was in response to my suggestion that his screener do a little more screening. I still think that it wouldn't be hard to reduce the number of calls...

Re: A Defense of Monogamous Homosexual 'Marriage'

Joan, I can appreciate your position. Yet I am torn. I read the Ephesians 5 passage that you are referring to, and see what you mean. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things comes the wrath of God on the children of disobedience. Be not you therefore partakers with them. ...

Re: A Defense of Monogamous Homosexual 'Marriage'

Here I will present some of the arguments I've already made against this article, interleaved with comments from someone defending it. The responses to my arguments, defending Justin's position, will be indented. ----------------------------------------------- On the logic front I found Justin all t...
