Steve, Thank you for your insight, especially concerning children. I think that does add another demension to the whole topic. I do not have children yet, so my perspective is limited... However, my wife and I are expecting our first in September, so it is important for me to think about and work th...

Edifying quotes from Mr. Charles Simeon and Mr. John Wesley
In the words of Charles Simeon (called a Calvinist): "Of this he [speaking of himself in the third person] is sure, that there is not a decided Calvinist or Arminian in the world who equally approves of the whole of Scripture . . . who, if he had been in the company of St. Paul whilst he was writing...

Thanks Steve, Opie and Moe...Moe, what an edifying verse! Opie, it makes sense to leave a church early on, like you are, if you aren't comfortable with what they teach. Thanks for clarifying. One more thought...The following is not specific to your situation Opie, but just a general thought. I have ...

Concerning leaving a church due to Calvinist doctrine
Opie,
I hope you aren't leaving your church simply because of their Calvinist stance. I would personally find it rather disappointing if a brother or sister would limit their fellowship to non Calvinists. Do you think common Calvinism is heresey?

Hammurabi's Code
Hey Steve, I'm taking a World History class at Chemeketa and we are studying Mesopotamian Societies. Hammurabi's Code is the main topic right now and the teacher keeps alluding to the idea that Moses got a lot of "his ideas" from this code. I have some of my own thoughts on this, and I am doing a li...

I do agree with this!
Ken, I may not have agreed with some of what you have said. But I certainly agree with your frustration on the 'word faith' movement. When I first became a Christian, do to bad teaching I believed that physical healing was a part of the atonement. It caused me lots of frustration and pain. I thank t...

A few questions for Ken
Ken, In response to: "If you wish me to go through a litany of Ancient Latin, Greek, Syriac, Coptic and Assyrian sources I will do so.." Ken, If you would be so kind I would appretiate you citing 5 or so documents and authors prior to the Constantine that would take an anti-pacifist stance, or a pro...
