Re: Gehenna - Literal or Figurative?

I'm determined to KNOW God more, and to continue seeking Him, continue asking Him to change me, and to encourage others to know Him and seek Him. I believe the scriptures provide more than enough reasons to encourage all individuals to come to God before they die the physical death that all men will...

Re: Gehenna - Literal or Figurative?

If those who made the earliest available translations of the scripture are correctly translating the words owlam/αιωνιον as "eternal/endless" (in those obvious passages that are most often debated, Daniel/Septuagint, Matthew, etc.), then truly most of this line of argumentation is moot. I believe th...

Re: Gehenna - Literal or Figurative?

@Steve, You see no synecdoche there? We know life is available for "all people", but we also know that not all people will respond to such life. I believe Paul already knows that his audience has this understanding based on other statements he made (1 Cor 6:9-10). In the passages you referenced, I s...

Re: Gehenna - Literal or Figurative?

@Steve, Well certainly this post of yours seems a bit more clear than your last one, although at least in part it does not sound entirely compatible with some of what you said the first time around. Regardless, my statements were to emphasize the seriousness of the warnings that exist in scripture, ...

Re: Gehenna - Literal or Figurative?

@Steve, I'm very surprised at all of the assumptions you are making about my convictions, especially for someone as studied as yourself. It's a good thing that you're not the primary teacher for explaining the purpose and meaning of my words. I'm merely someone who truly wants to make every effort ...

Re: Gehenna - Literal or Figurative?

I wonder why Jesus was so serious with his comments. He must have gone crazy! He didn't need to express himself with all of that hyperbole. He shouldn't have been so hard on those Pharisees. Similarly with Paul. Why was he warning us that we could be cut right out after we'd just been grafted in? Si...

Re: Gehenna - Literal or Figurative?

@steve7150 , So then you don't believe that Paul wrote Romans or you don't believe that what he said was inspired or perhaps you just don't believe what is written is true, for example in Romans 1:18-31 or Romans 10:14-17. Even for those who literally never heard of Christ, there will be an account...

Re: Gehenna - Literal or Figurative?

@Paidion, Regardless of what some individuals think is happening when they go through a "crisis", the point is... in the context of the scripture , the references to "krisis" is totally different in meaning by definition, and should not be extended to our use of a newer term that is used in a total...

Re: Gehenna - Literal or Figurative?

Given all the scripture in context, it's just amazing to me how people want to add in what seems "reasonable" to them in their own minds, rather than understand what is clearly stated. Jesus makes it clear. Clear implications that you can lose your life/soul (and obviously not referring to the death...

Re: Gehenna - Literal or Figurative?

Regardless of the etymology of the word we refer to in English as "crisis", clearly the "krisis" in the scripture does not have the same meaning as 'crisis' does in English language usage today.
