Re: Is God a Monster?
To my mind, there is a clear reference to the evangelization of the whole (global) world after AD70 in the parable of the King's Son's wedding (Matthew 22:1-14). The progression of thought is unambiguous: Verses 1-6 describe the Gospel being preached to the Jews, and their rejection of the King's i...

Re: Is God a Monster?
Hi Robby, You are missing my point. You have asserted that Jesus' commission to the Apostles/disciples was to go only to the Greco/Roman empire. You referred to historical accounts of Thomas going to India prior to the destruction of Jerusalem as a fable. The burden of proof is on you. Hi Homer, As...

Re: Is God a Monster?
Hi Robby, Earlier you wrote: As for the “great commission”, this was specifically given for Israel’s last days, which was in the 1st century, encompassing the known Roman Empire. This is very clear to me when reading the NT writers letters and understanding. I have been looking into this claim of y...

Re: Is God a Monster?
Robby, it strikes me that the Full Preterist theory sees God as limited in time and space -- not global, but territorial, like the pagan gods. Hi Candlepower, Thanks for the reply. However, I believe what Jesus prophesied and what the NT Writers said was assuredly fulfilled in their day, Israel's l...

Re: Is God a Monster?
Robby, Only by eisegesis can these verses in our Lord's commission to the apostles be limited to the Roman empire: Mark 16:15 (NASB) 15. And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation . Acts 1:8 (NASB) 8. but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come up...

Re: Is God a Monster?
Of note, I would also tend to equate Matthew 24:14 as a prophecy that was fulfilled in the 1st century (as demonstrated by those other verses you listed). A preterist interpretation of Matthew 24:14 is not, in other words, the issue I take with your position. Fair enough. Then please share your pri...

Re: Is God a Monster?
Homer, Matt, and others, Although I appreciate the discussion, this conversation is getting way off track from the original post. Therefore, I will attempt to present a working thesis on Matthew 24:14 and how I tentatively support a relevance only to Jesus' last days generation of the 1st century. I...

Re: Is God a Monster?
A few points in relation to this thread 1. The metaphor of death is being, in my opinion, overused by robbyyoung. People are not, in a literal sense, completely dead spiritually speaking. We are incapable of saving ourselves spiritually, but that doesn't mean we aren't spiritual 'awake' so to speak...

Re: Is God a Monster?
Hi Robby, You have commented; 1. The greek word oikoumenē is used to describe what world the NT writers are concerned with. Strong states the primary position as the inhabited earth contextualized as: (a) the portion of the earth inhabited by the Greeks, in distinction from the lands of the barbari...

Re: Is God a Monster?
As for the “great commission”, this was specifically given for Israel’s last days, which was in the 1st century, encompassing the known Roman Empire. If I'm reading you right, Robby, I'm sure glad you're wrong about this. Based on the quote above, I must ask if you think Jesus' command to make disc...
