Re: The Plausibility of Atheism
That is not a bad summary of some of my objections to religion in general. I would hazard away from the word prooves in mind brain and state instead, all evidence indicates and no evidence I have seen contradicts. Mainly because the word prooves can lead to really fustrating solopsistic arguments. A...

Re: Hello there, I'm an atheist
Greetings, Fair enough. But it still doesn't answer the basic question I had: If such responsibility for maintaining the viability of that child does not cease with birth, how can it cease before? Regards, Brenden. The basic question is invalid. Your definition of viability precluses the applicatio...

Re: The Plausibility of Atheism
Jason, I do not believe that the god hypothesis is falsifiable. That is to say it can not be proven or disproven. I also do not believe in divine revelation. I don't see how such revelation, if it actually happened, could be reliably distinguished from a false perception of divine revelation. So whe...

Re: Hello there, I'm an atheist
@Homer, It's an interesting restatement you offer of the prisoner's dilemma. However I would point out that the situation requires that information be denied John and Mary while they make their decision. In fact, in a true prisoner's dilemma it is critical to keep the prisoners from communicating to...

Re: Hello there, I'm an atheist
Hi, Thanks for responding. I believe you are stretching the definition of "viability" to counter my argument. I stated no such broad philosophical definition. I am referring to one child and one mother. A baby is not viable until they can care for themselves to some degree. Of course, if a person b...

Re: Hello there, I'm an atheist
The "viability" and "use of body" arguments have never really interested nor impressed me. Anyone with children knows they aren't truly "viable" until about age 4. Maybe one could take an exceptionally bright child and find them nuking a box of mac and cheese at age 3. But they'd still need the box...

Re: Hello there, I'm an atheist
Homer, With the understanding that we are using the same meaning of viable. Yes I think it is immoral. If the baby is ectopic, for instance, or has a serious birth defect then I would not call it viable. The decision of viability is one I would trust the mother to make with input from experts. My un...

Re: The Plausibility of Atheism
Hey Jason, I'm able to interact with my phone a little. So no quotes and feel free to double back to anything you find interesring you feel I missed. In terms of meaning what I see your statement as is an appeal to a necessary "absolute meaning" to give weight to any lesser meanings you feel you exp...

Re: Hello there, I'm an atheist
Apos, You wrote: The short version of my response is that if the baby is viable, I believe it should be induced or delivered through a csection and then placed for adoption. You "believe", but that's just your opinion. I ask why? Why shouldn't the mother be allowed to kill the baby the next day aft...

ApostateltsopA, I'd like to apologize for cutting into your leisure time, but hopefully you're gaining some measure of entertainment out of this discussion. Perhaps not on par with gaming, but still. No worries, I enjoy this sort of thing too, however I've got a major time comittment elsewhere for ...
