That just may be the explanation.Steve wrote: Being among the "elect" means you belong to the group; being "predestined" means that God has a glorious destiny for those in the group.

Re: Only one way to reconcile two Biblical positions on elec
I don't see why you'd think Eph was written to the Jews. Concerning 1Pet you may have reason, but Steve effectively refutes that in his lectures on that book.Butch5 wrote: Both of the verses you quoted were written to the Jews.

I don't really understand your counter as it may relate to my point, but I will say this. Class election (or whatever it's called) does make some sense and have Biblical support, but it just doesn't make logical sense to me. To say that God "chooses" a certain group to be his elect isn't really a ch...

Only one way to reconcile two Biblical positions on election
I am firmly on the fence between Calvinism and non-Calvinism, but there are several issues that seem to strongly favor Calvinism. One is the following. Consider the two main Biblical positions concerning election: 1 Peter 1:2 ...elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father... Ephesians 1:5...

I came across a good one today: Mat 26:64 (Jesus responds to the high priest): Jesus said to him, “It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.” The amellienialist takes this more or l...

Instances of dispensationalists not taking scripture literal
My brother is quite adversarial in his dispensational position. He sometimes repeats the refrain, "literal interpretation of Scripture." While there is no discussing this issue with my brother, I'd like to be able to tear down this straw man, so I'd like to build a list of instances where dispensati...

Does Jonathan Edwards lend credence to the traditional view?
Jonathan Edwards certainly subscribed to the traditional view of hell: It is everlasting wrath. It would be dreadful to suffer this fierceness and wrath of Almighty God one moment; but you must suffer it to all eternity. There will be no end to this exquisite horrible misery. When you look forward, ...
