Paidion, I made no mention of wives and husbands and believe it to be a different topic entirely. In fact, the only commonality is that both issues involve men and women. My comments were all related to how Christians should gather and edify one another. Perhaps you could define the word "authority"...

First of all, I know no one who argues against women in ministry. There were clearly deaconesses in the early church. The primary meaning of "deacon" is "distributor". The first deacons were appointed to serve tables so that the apostles could concentrate on dispensing the word of God (the gospel)....

Steve, I realize that one of the church fathers had mentioned all Christians fleeing Jerusalem prior to it's final downfall, thus "escaping geheena." However, was dying inside the city much different from dying as a Roman candle in Nero's garden? It seems that innocent children and babies were kille...

The strongest argument I've heard for women in ministry came from an evangelical, not a liberal. You can read Greg Boyd's essay here: http://www.gregboyd.org/essays/essays-church/women-in-ministry/ Greg uses a few arguments I've never heard before, and I've read quite a bit on this topic. For years ...

He got to within a hair's breadth of recognizing that the "gehenna" references in the Gospels apply specifically to the destruction of Jerusalem, but ended up saying that "gehenna" was simply a term that came to be used for general disaster and ruin. Steve, is it your view that "gehenna" (as used b...

Could it be that God, in his wisdom, arranged things so that the books he wanted to be in the Canon were the ones that were actually solidified? If that is the case, perhaps those books in our Canon are true and earnest but not inspired in some mystical sense. I actually use difficult Bible passages...

Danny, I agree with Paidion on this one. The theology that the entire creation was affected by the curse is well supported in scripture. Along with the passage Paidion quoted about animals, we also find in Genesis that the ground was cursed so that thorns appeared and harvesting was made more diffic...

Mort, there's a reason I don't argue from nature. Nature has been corrupted by the fall and nothing works as it ought. Some species eat their children but I wouldn't call that natural human bevahior. Paul tells us the creation is actually groaning for restoration, along with humanity. N.T. Wright ta...
