Re: "Chance" and Sovereignty
I truly think the appropriateness of seeking these types of confirmations from God varies by the person and situation, as I think it is very hard to condemn them unless the indecisiveness is on a very clear biblical point (such as, "Lord, please let me know by the flip of this coin whether or not I ...

Re: "Chance" and Sovereignty
God's will is not found in the decision to take a left turn instead of a right in a life decision. That kind of thinking will drive you mad. His will is how you live your life in whatever situation you are in after turning left. Yes, I completely understand and agree. This is truly not a question o...

Re: "Chance" and Sovereignty
Thank you for the reply, and I find that extremely interesting. You certainly made it difficult to come away with a false impression by the manner of your appeal to the Lord. I would absolutely love to hear about the other occasion. In the case of your coin toss, I found it intriguing that you were ...

"Chance" and Sovereignty
I have noticed that occasionally lots are used to make decisions in the Bible (perhaps exclusively prior to Pentecost, which would be noteworthy). The Bible apparently does not categorize the casting of lots as "divination". Additionally, Proverbs 16 says, "The lot is cast into the lap, but its ever...

Re: Near and Future Fulfillment of NT Prophecy
Thank you all for your responses; they have been very helpful. I guess the lesson, then, would be this:
If the fulfillment of the prophecy seems clear, that's that. There is no grounds for speculation about any future fulfillment.

Re: Near and Future Fulfillment of NT Prophecy
Hopefully this gives clarity to what I'm referring to. Here's an example regarding an Old Testament prophecy: [Quoted from another website]: King Solomon can also be thought of as a type of Christ. In 2 Samuel 7:13-15 God promised to David that his kingdom would be forever, and that after his loins ...

Re: Near and Future Fulfillment of NT Prophecy
Dr. Jim Hamilton, a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary, sees the birth of Jesus as a typological fulfillment {of Is 7:14} as opposed to a dual fulfillment. Thanks, Rick... I think this could be the key to where my thought is off base. David and other OT figures can in retrospect (often via exp...

Near and Future Fulfillment of NT Prophecy
Forgive me if this is covered elsewhere, but my searches didn't yield any relevant results. It seems to me that much of the arguing over NT prophecy is between those who believe that it is being fulfilled now or in the near (or undetermined) future, and those who believe that it was largely fulfille...
