Re: Pentecostal Language

Willowtree wrote, Our faith comes, not from what we ask for, but from hearing his acknowledgement that he has heard us. I like that. I was going to include that in may answer regarding the purpose of prayer. It is part of a relationship with God. Why bother relating? That's what we are designed to ...

Re: Pentecostal Language

Homer wrote, I see nothing wrong at all in humbly petitioning God to change His mind.
This is my position. It can be consistently defended. If you can't explain why your prayers are sometimes answered but sometimes not, from whence do you get your faith?

Re: Pentecostal Language

Why do children ask for things? They dont know whether they will receive what they ask for but they still do. It seems evident that the Lord does change His mind at our request from time to time. But when He has determined that our requests are not for the best, then I would defer to His sovereignty...

Re: Pentecostal Language

TK, I understood your point. I guess I just don't agree. You obviously have much more confidence in your knowledge of God's will for people. From my understanding and experience, suffering is (or can be if one doesn't suffer in vain) sometimes good for our spiritual development. The new testament do...

Re: Pentecostal Language

That's not really an accurate comparison, TK. First of all, standing up for the defenseless is something that a modestly well trained child should already know is the right thing to do. In the case of healing, we don't know if it is always the most advantageous thing for the sufferer to be healed. S...

Re: Pentecostal Language

Jaydam, I see this in much the same way as you. One can have all the faith in the world in God's ability to heal and still say, "Your will be done." I don't see God as the great dispenser of all things that I could possibly want. He is not obligated to fulfil all that I think is good. He sees what I...

Re: Why did Jesus stop reading?

Thank you Paidion, but again, off-topic. The question centers on whether or not Jesus agreed that the words of Moses and the prophets were equivalent to the words of God. No conversation regarding the attributes of love, justice (restorative or retributive) nor, indeed, any other argument can be had...

Re: Why did Jesus stop reading?

I find that when a society is actively moving away from God, their ideas regarding right and wrong, just and unjust, are not often in agreement with the thoughts of God. What our nations are moving towards may not be as good as it looks on the outside. This thread is moving away from its original di...

Re: Why did Jesus stop reading?

In United States and Canada, any citizen who kills the people that he hates would be arrested as a criminal, and if convicted, be given a life sentence or be executed. What are you saying, Paidion? You seem to be giving approval for the state to arrest or execute murderers but saying God doesn't ha...

Re: Why did Jesus stop reading?

I apologize if my questions are not clear enough or otherwise come across wrong Paidion. That is not my intention. I don't think Jesus or the people of that day ever considered the concept of inspiration, at least not in the way it is understood in our day by many Christian people. No matter their u...
