Re: Revelation 20:5 Confusion

It turns out that what you're trying to make fit is Rev. 20:5a. It is a textual variant that may or may not be a legitimate part of the text. Take a look at 4-6 with and without it, and consider whether or not is make sense: With (ESV) Rev 20:4  Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to w...

Re: The "little horn" and "the man of lawlessness"

I tend to lean towards Rome as the fourth beast as opposed to Greece. However, an intriguing third option is the Zealot movement in Judea. The link below is to a detailed argument of this:

Re: Preferred Bible Translation

In the last few years I've become a fan of the ESV. Before that, I split my time between NKJV and NASB. Translations can't be perfect.

Re: "Behold I come soon"

I wrote a short book called "Preterist Time Statements" where I talk about timing language and catalog more than 350 examples (I've found more, and different types, since) of statements saying that his "coming" would be in the lifetimes of his first generation of followers. I'm not aware of anyone a...

Re: A brother "almost persuaded" of full-preterism

Steve, I hope you don't mind me commenting a bit on the answers you gave regarding full preterism. I have edited your response to narrow the field to my responses. I received and responded to the following correspondence today: Hi S—, I will address your concerns in the order that you presented them...

Re: Zechariah 14:3

Both of Duncan's books are very good. I think you'll get a lot from them. They helped close the loop for me on the Titus vs. Nero issue. In the end, it's spiritual powers that are judged. As far as Zechariah 14 goes, if we are going to try to interpret things literally, keep in mind that you have to...

Re: Military Religious Services

In boot camp the choice is whether to go sit in a big room where people say things you don't care about, or get screamed at while doing push-ups until you can't move. Compliance is 100%. I'm sure the Air Force is less intense, but the expectation is similar. After boot camp I'm sure it's even less i...

Re: Military Religious Services

That sounds pretty Air Force. In the Marines, we were ordered to go to the single Protestant service unless we were were going to go to the RCC service. At the Protestant service we sang a few song. ( learned later that some guys preferred that one because their family could sneak in pretending to d...

Re: Purpose of the church today - Preterism

In my opinion it's a bit closer to Amillennialism than Postmillennialism since the renewal is primarily spiritual. I do think that Christianity will spread to become dominant (there are more Christians right now than there were people 100 years ago), but I don't think this means we will take over th...

Re: Purpose of the church today - Preterism

dwilkins, Are you saying most full Preterists would disagree with the idea that those who die and are judged righteous will live again on this earth (or on a new earth)? It sounds like you're saying eternal life happens in heaven, right? I think that's right. The idea that people come back to earth...
