Re: Why get emotional about eschatology?

I thought also respect LITERAL readings of the Scriptures, and as I presented Mark 13, I brought Mark 13:30 into context in which Jesus implicitly states that "ALL these things will not take place until THIS GENERATION passes." And showed plainly how history has been fulfilled the verses we began s...

Re: The Fear of God-has the Church Lost It?

We should fear not so much the LORD (though it can be phrased like that), but the consequence of rejecting the LORD. We should fear what happens when we reject the source of life itself. So now you're not talking about reverence but actual fear, being afraid. I can't see any difference between fear...

Re: An email about Mormonism

They say that Mormons are Tritheists, that they believe the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are three separate Gods who are in full agreement. Trinitarians also believe in three who are in full agreement, but believe that the three are somehow just one God. So both believe that Jesus is God. So in what...

Homer quoting 1 Samuel 16: 1.Now the Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have selected a king for Myself among his sons.” 2. But Samuel said, ...

Re: Christians and lying

Homer, as you describe "hierarchicalist," I would say that that is what I am. I believe it is morally right to lie in order to save a life. In the situation regarding an answer to a host regarding whether you enjoyed a meal, and the situation would result in no personal gain to you and no harm to an...

Re: Christians and lying

Telling an untruth to a murderer in order to protect or hide his intended victim is not a sin. True, but only because there is a moral conflict. Saving a life where possible is higher on the scale or morality than refraining from lying. But I went on to say that lying for other reasons where there ...

Re: Christians and lying

Si, why lie when you can express your appreciation of your mother's hospitality without doing so? Refraining from lying is not legalism. It's morality.

If your mother finds out you lied about her food, she may find it harder to believe other things you tell her.

Re: Paul and Soul Sleep

It appears that some that Paul wrote to were concerned that their loved ones who had died before Christ's return would miss out on the resurrection. Paul assures them that those who died in Christ would rise and be first to meet the Lord. Why wouldn't he have assured them that those who had died in...

Re: Christians and lying

To me, the sin of "lying" entails telling an untruth purposefully for personal gain or nefarious purpose. I don't consider a "white lie" to preserve others' feelings as being told for personal gain. Couldn't the lie of telling your mother that her bad food is delicious be for personal gain? The per...
