Re: Gal 3:19-20 Solved by Shema informed by the deity of Christ

just to be clear ... there is no theological problem that i find raised with Paul saying "but God is one." The riddle is in stating that, in the promise between two parties, that a mediator does not intervene for one party. The issue then is how Paul shares that the promise only has one party. I gu...

Re: The Trinity: What Must Be Believed

I have long believed that Christianity is a simple religion , that is, what must be believed to be saved, to be a Christian, is simple. I say this as one who believes that the Trinity is the best explanation of the relationship of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I speak here of what is necessary ...

Re: Fullness of the Gentiles (Romans 11:25)

While Steve does see an immediate and ongoing application of the general teaching on who is Israel, I think he does not see the reference to the "fullness of the Gentiles" in 11:25 as being in that context but in a future only context. I got focused on the wrong part of the verse. Listening again.....

Re: Fullness of the Gentiles (Romans 11:25)

Just wanted to make sure it is clear, namely that I agree with all you have said in the first post. I think the way that your determination on the passage has been missed is due to a weakness in the general interpretation methods used. The methodology involves a focus on extracting the wisdom and te...

Re: Fullness of the Gentiles (Romans 11:25)

I listened again to Steve's concept. He treats all who come to know Christ as being part of Israel. As such, people added today are part of the All of Israel concept. I instead propose that the All of Israel is the fulfilled by the remnant bloodline mentioned in Rom 9:27-29 in order to fulfill the p...

Re: Fullness of the Gentiles (Romans 11:25)

did you come to this understanding after hearing Steve or did you come by totally independently? I'm constantly out on a limb but I always am glad to find where someone like Steve or a commentary confirms the same thing. When I figured out that Romans was written to a gentile-only audience back in 2...

Re: Fullness of the Gentiles (Romans 11:25)

Reading through Romans, I am struggling with Romans 11:25. Every commentary (including Steve) I can find sees this as eschatological in some way even if they disagree on the future meaning. But, as I read Romans 9-11, I see Paul talking mostly about the past and reality of his present... I hope Ste...

Re: Fullness of the Gentiles (Romans 11:25)

I have the same issue with assuming a future where all Israel is saved. I agree that the delay of 2000 or more years is an absurd duration of hardening all those hearts. But the situation of the Israel people was better than most other nations at that time. The Israel people were first to hear of Ch...

Re: Fullness of the Gentiles (Romans 11:25)

It is odd how no scholars (to my knowledge) have came to the same conclusion as Steve. Kudos to Steve for recognizing this was first-century stuff. When Paul says "And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob" -...

Appreciate the help, it's tough to parse all this out.
Lenski's commentary I think was published after his death from his notes, if I remember correctly. His admirers (congregation?) may have published it due to respect for him -- like his ideas or his ministry.
