Hello, Homer,

Thank you for your posting:
Although I am trinitarian, I believe more is said than necessary on this subject, a lot of it little more than speculation. Peter's confession was commended by Jesus. If we must know more than this to be saved, then most people aren't smart enough to make it, including perhaps all who post here. (Perhaps there is a test on judgement day where a correct explanation of the exact nature of the Trinity must be given to pass!)

How many of those who faithfully fill the pews on Sunday do you suppose could explain the Trinity? Perhaps simple faith in and faithfulness to our Lord isn't enough?
To which I would add:

Isn't salvation by impeccability of doctrine another form of "works-righteousness"?

Shlamaa,
Emmet

Emmet,

I worked for many a major corporation for many years before I retired. We received a great deal of training, at a huge cost to the company. We were taught various kinds of things useful in managing the business. We would be taught one thing, and before it was implemented as it should have been, we would be confronted with another "program of the month", requiring training in something else. Those responsible acted surprised when asked why we didn't actually do all we were taught to do, never fully implemented anything.

I think this is a useful metaphor for many of us Christians, i. e., lots of thinking, study, going to church, arguing over the fine points, and relatively little application of what we have been taught.

That said, doctrine is important, although Christianity is, I believe, a simple religion (yes, religion). Peter's confession, I believe, contains all that is necessary regarding who Jesus is.

Perhaps Homer, but Peter did'nt know that Jesus would die for his sins or be resurrected. I think these two things may be necessary as well as desiring to follow Christ.

But did what Jesus accomplished actually change who He was?

I suppose it could be. My point is that if we face The Lord on judgement day and He says "I have a two-part test you must take; both answers must be exactly correct. Explain the nature of the Trinity and the Atonement" then a whole bunch of folks are going to be in trouble. :(
