Why did Jesus name James and John the sons of thunder?

I was reading in Mark chapter 3 this morning and after reading these verses I wanted to ask you all why do you think Jesus surnamed James and John "The sons of thunder"(Boanerges) in verse 17. I think we all are somewhat knowledgeable about the previous verse: " And Simon he surnamed Peter;", and the significance of this surname.
I would like to hear all of your thoughts on this please.

For those of you who looked at this question, I thank you. I am 53 and have been a believer most of my life, hearing the gospel from childhood. I have never in all these years heard or read any reference to this simple matter. I know that it is but a small point in the word but just thought that I would ask you all if you knew anything about this.

Scripture doesn’t explains this interesting nickname to my knowledge. The most common speculation I found is that perhaps the story in Luke 9, 51-56, where they once wished to call down fire from heaven to destroy a village which had refused them hospitality, may have been the reason for the nickname.

Roger, I'm also 53 and been a believer 3 1/2 years. Anyway my study bible refers to Mark 9.38 and Luke 9.54 . It seems initially that John had a lot of thunder in him until he settled down.
