pastoral epistles

Post by _Anonymous » Mon Jun 14, 2004 5:14 pm

There have been some critiques of Paul's pastoral epistles that assert that they were written later and not by Paul because of linguistic structure of the documents. does anyone know why the pastorals should be considered authentic?

Ignatius

A very early church father Ignatius (AD 30-107) quoted from 1 and 2 Timothy quite a few times. I don't know exactly what year Ignatius wrote these things, but at least that means that the circulation of 1 & 2 Timothy must have been before AD 107, the year that Ignatius died. In my mind, this means who ever wrote 1 & 2 Timothy must have written them quite bit before AD 107, a good piece of evidence for Paul's authorship.
