Christology & God/Theology Links (vids, audio, etc.)

Post by RickC » Fri Aug 20, 2010 9:26 pm

Christology: The study of Christ.
I have "God" (links) in thread title for any stuff that may be about or include the (formal) Doctrine of God. I may include things related, like maybe on the Gospels, other theological.

Jesus the Jew - But What Sort of Jew? (video by John P. Meier)
Description - John P. Meier, a Catholic priest, is professor of New Testament at the University of Notre Dame. He is perhaps the foremost biblical scholar of his generation. Meier's work represents the first time an American Catholic biblical scholar has attempted a full-scale, rigorously scientific treatment of the "historical Jesus." By the "historical Jesus," Meier means the Jesus whom we can recover or reconstruct by using the tools of modern historical research. Series: "Burke Lectureship on Religion & Society" [2/2002, length, 1:21]

In Search of the Historical Jesus (video by Craig Blomberg)
Description - Craig Blomberg, a specialist in the parables and the writings of Luke and Acts, discusses the historical Jesus. Series: "Let There Be Light" [8/2004, length, 1:26]
=========================================

I read Meier's first of a four book series, Jesus: A Marginal Jew. Quite a lot could be said here. Meier's scholarship is simply excellent! He's funny too.

Blomberg's talk would be a better introduction to historcial Jesus studies (over against Meier, which is a bit more technical). Blomberg gives an overview of the history of historical Jesus studies up to the present (to 2004 anyway). Great stuff! And so is Craig funny also!

Thanks & more to come some time later (audios, vids, and maybe other)! :)

P.S. If anyone likes any of these and wants to discuss - here we are! BUMP ME! :mrgreen:
P.S.S. Pass em along to your friends! Image

"Bring to You" MP3 Debates, Apologetics Talks, EWTN
- not exclusively Roman Catholic
- has 2 of the Richard Bauckham links (page one)
- Greg Boyd, William Lane Craig, Gary Habermas, N.T. Wright, many others
- John Ankerberg programs are good (from a conservative perspective on Historical Jesus)
- also has Bart Ehrman, Jesus Seminar (and other 'liberal/revisionist') talks and debates

Open Yale Course: Intro to the Old Testament

Post by RickC » Sun Nov 28, 2010 6:03 pm

This isn't "theology proper" but I've decided to post it here (for convenience).

From Open Yale Courses ---
Introduction to the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible) with Professor Christine Hayes
About the Course

This course examines the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible) as an expression of the religious life and thought of ancient Israel, and a foundational document of Western civilization. A wide range of methodologies, including source criticism and the historical-critical school, tradition criticism, redaction criticism, and literary and canonical approaches are applied to the study and interpretation of the Bible. Special emphasis is placed on the Bible against the backdrop of its historical and cultural setting in the Ancient Near East.
I've heard this whole series and really enjoyed it! It's an 'academic' historical-critical overview of the OT, not a 'theological' course. Put another way, and as a kind of caveat to 'evangelicals'; some of what you hear here may not resonate with your theology (e.g., JEDP Theory of the OT, etc.). I'm somewhat theologically liberal, and found much, if not most, of what Prof Hayes said to be quite helpful! But to you who may be more conservative (or maybe even fundamentalists): I'm sure there are plenty of cool historical facts and other information in the course that would make it well worth a listen for you (though you would disagree at times).
=====================================

Btw, the course is also on youtube.
Ironically, an atheist put tons of graphics to go with the lectures (maps, all kinds of stuff).
However, I don't recommend youtube, as there are sexually graphic images at certain points.

=====================================

Anyways.
'There for the taking....
Take care, :)

I just found a site named http://www.closertotruth.com/
The 'About Closer to Truth' page wrote:Closer To Truth is the definitive series on Cosmos, Consciousness and God, a global journey in search of the vital ideas of existence. It is the most complete, compelling, and accessible series on Cosmos, Consciousness and God ever produced for television.

Closer To Truth explores fundamental issues of universe, brain/mind, religion, meaning and purpose through intimate, candid conversations with leading scientists, philosophers, scholars, theologians and creative thinkers of all kinds. The shows are a rich visual experience, shot entirely on location in high definition with multiple cameras generating rich production values. The visual lushness of the high definition, on-location productions, combined with the intriguing titles of the shows, builds audiences already interested in mankind's greatest questions.
This site isn't exclusively Christian, but has Christian thinkers.
(And one of my faves being) --
Closer to Truth: Greg Boyd page
Each interview is approximately 12 minutes long.

Thanks, :)
