You write “The entire prophecy of the “70 weeks” is confined to four verses of scripture:”
But as you know, Dan. 9:24-27 is part of the entire chapter and is the answer to Daniel’s prayer.
Dan 9:23 At the beginning of your petitions an answer went out, and I have come to give it, for you are treasured by God. So consider the message and understand the vision:
Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city--to bring the rebellion to an end, to put a stop to sin, to wipe away injustice, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy place.
Daniel’s prayer begins as he recognizes from reading Jeremiah that the 70 years of punishment and exile are now over and that it is therefore God’s intention to restore the city and the people.
Dan 9:2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the books according to the word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet that the number of years for the desolation of Jerusalem would be 70.
Jer 29:10 For this is what the LORD says: "When 70 years for Babylon are complete, I will attend to you and will confirm My promise concerning you to restore you to this place.
Dan 9:16 Lord, in keeping with all Your righteous acts, may Your anger and wrath turn away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain; for because of our sins and the injustices of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people have become an object of ridicule to all those around us.
Therefore, the entire context is regarding restoration not destruction. Sure, a second destruction is mentioned after the Messiah is cut off in 9:26. But all of that is only after 69 weeks and is itself only part of the 70th week which is about the ultimate restoration; the true answer to Daniel’s prayer.
Six items are laid out in Daniel 9:24 that are to be the goal of the 70th Seven not the 69th or the 7th. Only after the 70th Sevens are completed, will Israel be restored in the fashion that Daniel prayed for and was asked to understand.
“So consider the message and understand the vision:”
Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city—
1) to bring the rebellion to an end,
2) to put a stop to sin,
3) to wipe away injustice,
4) to bring in everlasting righteousness,
5) to seal up vision and prophecy, and
6) to anoint the most holy place.
Perhaps we should be discussing what each of these things mean to Daniel rather than what one wants them to mean in a 21st Century Christian context.

Acts 3:19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord
and
Acts 3:22 For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. 23 And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.
What's wrong with the way the new testament writers interpreted these?Cameron wrote: Six items are laid out in Daniel 9:24 that are to be the goal of the 70th Seven not the 69th or the 7th. Daniel prayed, but that doesn't mean Daniel understood more than the return from Babylon being in view. Maybe he understood much more but certainly we should be focusing on what the angel revealed, not what Daniel expected. Besides, there was a restoration. That's what the focal point is in verse 25 is about. After that is destruction of what was (to be) rebuilt. The physical is no longer necessary after the preisthood changed.
You previously called the new testament fulfillments of Daniel 9 "spiritual".
It's almost like your saying that spiritual = not real.
I don't understand. When Jesus said John was Elijiah that was to come, this was not physical but spiritual. Yet Malachi says Elijiah will come. Did this happen or not? How do you interpret this?
