Ely,

Thank you for the link to the debate. Fascinating.

Please understand. After 25 years of having only a pre-trib understanding of so many biblical issues much of this is all new to me.

Appreciate the help.

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

The point is not whether or not the apostles were involved in OT Jewish religion (most Jews probably continued this when they became Christians, but didn't need to, and Gentiles who became Christians didn't need to do this).

The new covenant made old covenant obsolete with Jesus’ death, but the ongoing practice of animal sacrifice wasn't finally done away with until 70 AD.

Animal sacrifices never removed sin. The temple was destroyed in 70AD as a judgment on the Jews and the temple that Jesus said He was going to rebuild was His body. The church, the people of God, is the dwelling of God, the temple.

I do not believe that there will be a literal rebuilt temple.

Hebrews 12:25-28
25(BD)See to it that you do not refuse Him who is (BE)speaking For (BF)if those did not escape when they (BG)refused him who (BH)warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who (BI)warns from heaven.
26And (BJ)His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, "(BK)YET ONCE MORE I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO THE HEAVEN."

27This expression, "Yet once more," denotes (BL)the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

28Therefore, since we receive a (BM)kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may (BN)offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe;

29for (BO)our God is a consuming fire
Some people believe that this is talking about the end of the world, but others would see it speaking about the end of the OT religion.

- V26 quotes Hag 2:6 re: destruction of the Jewish order, contrast shaking earth when he established the law, now shakes earth and heaven when he takes it out
- V27 things that are made = temple and old covenant
- V28 church = kingdom of God cannot be shaken
- Christians haven’t come to Mt. Sinai, which is symbolic for the founding of the law, it started with a shaking, God predicted in the prophets that God would do a greater shaking, that the old covenant system would collapse

in Him,
Les
