The description kind of reminds me of many of the Jewish converts in the NT. They believed in Christ as their savior, yet they were loath to give up the traditions they came from.
Sounds like the PD's are kind of in the same boat. They recognize that traditional dispensensationalism is getting harder and harder to defend as people read the Bible without Darby and LeHaye looking over their shoulders, yet they're afraid to turn their backs on what they spent so much time having ingrained in their belief systems.
Oh well, at least it seems to be an honest effort to get polar opposites to dialogue about this kinda stuff. Who knows how it'll ultimately turn out, but it's a step in the right direction.
