E-sword

Post by Pierac » Mon Dec 08, 2008 4:34 pm

How many here use the free bible program e-sword?

It’s free, so I figure it would be popular here! ;) Here’s a link for some who may not have the program.

To me the program began to really shine when I found the extra add-ons links. I even have (3) pre-KJV 1611 versions from other translators to review. Another cool add-on is the Ante-Nicene Fathers (9 Volumes). The Ante-Nicene Fathers in book form runs close to $300.00 to buy! The only problem with the on-line version is it’s massive, and is hard to read on a computer screen.

Now for the reason for this post! I would like for everyone to post links to extra bibles, commentaries, and general stuff. Of course, I’m talking about free, non-copyright material.

I have actually purchased a few programs from the main site. I would highly recommend the Word-study, the NASB Bible package and the NET Bible commentary version.

Please add your own bible links and e-sword tips here. Make sure the material is not copy righted.

Hello Paul
(nice to meet you)
I also use E-Sword, it's handy to have, especially when not on the internet. I like the word search feature too, much easier than poring through Strong's exhausting tome (oops, I mean exhaustive concordance).

One program I also like is InstaVerse, where you point the cursor at a verse ref. & it instantly brings it up. At least it usually does, it seems a bit temperamental at times needing to be accessed manually, or it could just be my computer.

from the blurb:

"Do you visit Christian web sites or receive daily devotional emails? Ever want to look up a scripture fast? InstaVerse™ by WORDsearch will let you instantly see the actual Bible text for scripture references like John 3:16 — just point your mouse at it, and the text pops up in your preferred translation! The best part is that InstaVerse with the KJV Bible is FREE!"

I don't use E-Sword, because I have never found a program that comes anywhere near the ONLINE BIBLE form Larry Pierce. It's not really an online Bible; it's a Bible program, but the best.

You can get a starter pack free from the official North American site, and then you can add on to it. It's better to actually purchase the disk, but it' s a wonderful program either way.

My program has dozens of translations as well as Greek and Hebrew, several Greek lexicons, the works of many great authors, the Apocrypha in several English versions as well as Greek, the New Testament Apocrypha, and much, much more. It even has the Koran in several versions.

If you want to try it, by downloading the starter kit, here is the official site. You must then add on features to the starter kit. You need to do all that if you want it free. But I recommend purchasing the disk.
