THe value of seminary

Many pastors and clergyman today have gone to seminary, and this seems to be the way that many people get into ministry. Is there any value in doing such a thing? If just anybody can go to seminary if they have an education from an accredited school, then why should anyone go to seminary? Doesn't it make it simply an intellectual exercise? What are some of the problems and positives that people see in a seminary education.
