Possible Earliest Reference to Christ Found
Re: Possible Earliest Reference to Christ Found
No evidence at all in my opinion.
The English transliteration is given as "DIA CHRSTOU O GOISTAIS"
First, notice that the vowel is absent in "CHRSTOU". If it refers to Christ, the word would be "CHRISTOU". But what if that vowel were an "E"? Also "DIA" followed by the genitive means "through" not "by".
DIA CHRESTOU O GOISTAIS
In the missing vowel were an "E", the phrase would be translated:
THE MAGICIAN THROUGH KINDNESS.

Man judges a person by his past deeds, and administers penalties for his wrongdoing. God judges a person by his present character, and disciplines him that he may become righteous.

Also, unless I'm missing something, the term "CHRIST" in my understanding is not a proper noun and may not even refer to Jesus even if it does translate "Christ."

Yes. The Greek word for "Christ" means "anointed one", and could indicate anyone considered by a particular society to be "anointed".
