Another one that came to my mind is the compilation of old time preachers (Tozer, Ravenhill, Reidhead, Campbell, etc) called Revival Hymn.

This is an awesome compilation that is both challenging and convicting. I found myself tearing up and getting the chills.

Where are these kind of preachers today?

i have probably given out at least 25 copies of the Revival Hymm to various people, and all have the same reaction as me (and you). people are hungry for this sort of stuff but they dont even know it, because it is rarely heard anymore. i was at a youth seminar a couple of years ago and during break the leader was playing clips like the Revival Hymn and some other clips off of the "fire on the altar" website. the result was the HS sweeping through the room, which is the only time i ever experienced anything like it.

if someone like L. Ravenhill preached at the average evangelical church today people wouldnt know what to think. they would likely either toss him out or hit the floor face down.

i think many of us are hungry for a true revival because we have never experienced it. I know that Steve G has and i know he wants to experience it again.

the recent sermonindex newsletter had these ravenhill quotes: :

"Today's church wants to be raptured from responsibility."

"Everyone recognizes that Stephen was Spirit-filled when he was performing wonders. Yet, he was just as Spirit-filled when he was being stoned to death."

"Many pastors criticize me for taking the Gospel so seriously. But do they really think that on Judgment Day, Christ will chastise me, saying, 'Leonard, you took Me too seriously'?"

Ravenhill has the catchiest little one-liners that are so profound yet he seems to come up with them spontaneously. I've listened to many of his sermons and he usually has very convicting things to say to the body of Christ, both on a individual and a corporate level.

How about if I just give another Ravenhill quote to ponder:

"The world is not waiting for a new definition of Christianity, It's waiting for a new demonstration of Christianity"

Every revival started with a small group of faithful and committed Christians praying fervently for it.

My home group just talked about this very thing last night and we all committed to make this a top priority for our prayer meetings (and personal prayer as well) to pray fervently for a moving of the Spirit in our community.

Ultimately, we don't go about it though, God does. We can only be obedient to pray for it and wait for Him (see Acts 2).

Another classic Ravenhill line is that "we don't have revival because we are content to live without it."

i think that is the bottom line. i know that prior to the revival in the scottish Hebrides (that much of the "Revival Hymn" compilation references) began with two old infirm women praying for it for a long period of time. there were also young men, possibly teenagers, that met everynight either in a barn or outside somewhere to pray for revival. the Spirit actually fell when Duncan Campbell (the minister from the mainland) arrived and the men were meeting for prayer and one of the young men prayed the Psalm:

Who shall ascend the hill of God?
Who shall stand in His holy place? He that has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to vanity nor sworn deceitfully, he shall receive the blessing of the Lord.

i have been praying for this in my church and my community for some time now. i know that a few others are doing so. we do so together when we are together. i SO want to experience it! but i know revival is costly but i am ready.

we do a lot of theology talking on this board but i want to EXPERIENCE GOD like never before. i want to walk into the doors of my church and have my breath taken away by the very presence of God. i want to be able to FEEL the glory of God.. not just talk about it. one more from Mr. Ravenhill:

And there was no room for Him in the inn.

He went to the temple, no room in the temple, the temple turned on Him.
And when He died there was no room to bury Him, He died outside of the city.
Well why in God's Name do you expect to be accepted everywhere?
How is it that the world couldn't get on with the holiest Man that ever lived and can get on with you and me?

Have we no righteousness that reflects on their corruption?
