Why it is wrong for a strong Christian to celebrate XMAS pub
Re: Why it is wrong for a strong Christian to celebrate XMAS
My main concern is Christians citing ... "Merry Christ mass" and not knowing what they are saying.
Being an historicist, this is not surprising, as scripture states that if it were possible, even the very elect would be deceived.

Re: Why it is wrong for a strong Christian to celebrate XMAS
"Mass" is simply a historic word to describe the Eucharist. Christ mass, then, is the Eucharist celebrated in honor of Christ's birth.
While the holy day was instituted by what we know to be the Catholic Church, one is not "deceived" if they celebrate communion in honor of Christ's birth on a given day. Even if that day was selected by a disreputable organization. It's just a day.

Are you not concerned about the Roman mass ... or the term ... merry death of Christ?
Would it not be more acceptable for believing Protestants to say ... merry Jesus' day
merry Christ's day ... merry birth of Jesus?
Is it necessary for Protestants to be sucked into the traditional sayings of Rome?
Is not the Roman mass a blasphemous performance in your opinion?

The Eucharist is always about remembering Jesus' death.
The Roman version is one of many ways it has been done throughout the millennia, each claiming to be the most authoritative or most biblical. I don't agree with some aspects, but I am not corrupted by my association with those differences by speaking the name "mass."

Canada, the "mass" in "Christ's mass" does not speak of his death.
In about 354 A.D. I think it was Bishop Liberius who instituted the first Christmas (Christ's mass).
Three masses were held in honour of the three births of Christ (not his death):
1. His birth before all ages. (Original Nicene Creed; also John 16:28 "I emerged out of the Father and have come into the cosmos")
2. His birth from Mary. (Luke 2:7)
3. His birth in the hearts of the faithful. (Gal 4:19)

Thanks Paidion,
That is the first time I have every heard that the literal word "mass" was literally associated with "birth" and not "death".
Perhaps someone else can reconfirm that when one states "merry Christmas" you are literally saying "merry birth of Christ".

Canada,
I must confess that I don't see what there is in genuine Christianity that would justify such hypersensitivity about terminology.

Steve,
Perhaps if you were an historicist, you might view the situation from a different perspective.
Regarding the image of the beast, the mark of the beast on right hand and forehead and the numbered beast, I believe these three things have come to pass and that "most" Christians are unaware.
Most would not believe this ... unless ...God destroyed that great city Mystery Babylon (Vatican City) tomorrow, and perhaps then, students of prophecy would question "how can this be?" ... the image, mark and number were supposed to come to pass prior to its destruction.

If a present day Protestant believed as the Reformation saints and martyrs ... that the papacy was one of the beasts of Revelation, and that the Church of Rome was that great harlot church that had reigned over kings of the earth ... it should not be difficult for a serious student of prophecy to recognize the identifying mark of the beast on RIGHT hand and/or FOREHEAD of it’s followers. Rev 13:16
Which hand do the followers of Rome use to display this sign (charagma) or mark? Their right hand.
With his right hand, the priest dips his thumb into the baptismal font and places the X or cross sign on the forehead of the infant followers at their baptism. This practise originates the phrase "under the thumb of Rome”.
On Ash Wednesday ... using his right hand, the priest dips his thumb into the wood ashes and places the X or cross sign on the forehead of the adult followers of Romanism.
Many are the mighty wonders and “miracles” claimed by Rome.
And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth.
Note that the location of this “heaven” is ... on the earth ... ie Vatican City. Note also that this “fire” is "in the sight of men”. Rev 13:13.
The two horns or tongues of the papal and bishops mitre represent the tongues of fire that rested on the heads of the disciples on the Day of Pentecost.
Within its “heaven on earth” (Vatican City) at one time issued its own currency for buying and selling.
And who or what is the “False Prophet”? ... it is the Vatican hierarchy, pope, cardinals bishops etc. for that is the meaning of the word “vatic” ... ie “prophet”.
The futurist, through study of scripture attempts to tell us ... what is going to happen.
The historicist through study of scripture and history attempts to recognize the event when it comes to pass.
