unforgiveness=unforgiven?

Post by AaronBDisney » Thu Feb 28, 2013 9:47 pm

Not sure if I heard right or not. I usually at least always partially agree with Steve, but I thought I'd heard him say something that I (at least at this point) fully disagree with. He (or 'you', Steve, if you're reading this) said something on Wednesday's hour long show to the effect that unforgiveness in a person's life will reduce the closeness one has with God and possibly even invite trouble into one's life. However, this is not a forfeiting of one's salvation.

I don't know that there's not a 'grace period' where God is waiting for you to forgive. But if you go on in unforgiveness, it's my opinion that scripture says you'll have no forgiveness from God.
Matthew 6:14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

It seems to me that being unforgiven by God is not a state of right standing with God, thus a state of being considered unrighteous before Him. I don't know how that isn't walking away from your trust in Him. That is unrepentant sin, and if wallowed in long enough, it seems as though He cuts you off from the tree.

Maybe I just heard Steve wrong, or maybe I heard him right and disagree. And if I disagree, I'd like to know how this all lines up with this scripture. Thanks :)
