Steve- Islam and the Messiah with regards to today's call

Post by Ryan07 » Thu Jun 12, 2014 4:10 pm

Hey Steve,
I am listening to you right now and heard you say something like ,"I don't know if Muslims would call Jesus the Messiah. I don't think they would."
I just want to point out to you that whether they would or not the Quran mentions Jesus is the Messiah anywhere from 9 to 12 times. I am not sure exactly perhaps some additional research would help.

Thanks, Ryan. I thought I had heard that Islam does grant the title Messiah to Jesus, but wasn't sure—which is why I said I don't know. I appreciate the confirmation of what I heard previously. Blessings!

Thanks, Steve.
I believe this is an important subject and I don't want to leave you out there blind without the scriptural references.

Here is a rather fascinating verse form the Quran that actually testifies Jesus is the Word:
“...Jesus is God’s servant and His Messenger and His Word which He bestowed on Mary and a Spirit from Him, and that Paradise is true, and Hell is true, God will admit him into Paradise with the deeds which he has done even if those deeds were few.”

“But the Messiah said, ‘O Children of Israel, worship God, my Lord and your Lord.’” (Quran 5:72)

The theme is sort of to affirm him as the Messiah while denying him as the Son of God.
“And (We cursed them) for their disbelief… and their boastful claim: Indeed, we have killed the [so-called] Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of God. And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him.” (Quran 4:156-157)

And these 2 passages which affirm Jesus the Messiah while denying his divinity and delegating him to a prophet(messenger):
“Indeed, they are unbelievers who say, ‘God is the Messiah, the son of Mary.’” (Quran 5:72)
“The Messiah, son of Mary, was no other than a messenger; messengers before him had indeed passed away.” (Quran 5:75)

The thing the Quran seems to be oddly quiet about is just what exactly it is to be Messiah.
