Problems Linking To This Site
Maybe Admins or others can help me here, I hope.
So, say, I've posted on a topic on this forum.
Then I give the link to it to a friend.
Problem: Many folks say they can't get to it.
(I'm assuming they know how to copy & paste).
Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?
Thanks,

Re: Problems Linking To This Site
By any chance, does everyone who can't get here use the same ISP? If so, have a few of them contact the ISP and insist they unblock it. If that doesn't get results, they can always use a proxy server, although that's a bit of a pain.
There's a wireless ISP around here who blocks this site. Most likely they're not blocking theos.org specifically, rather they're blocking the web host it lives on, in a misguided anti-spam effort that's a little too rabid.

Thanks for the reply, backwoodsman.
I just had someone try and they got the message:
"the requested topic does not exist"
They had wireless with a small (local) ISP provider.
They also said they didn't want to check with them about it.
(Aren't the 'theological' type of person).
If I'm not mistaken, I have asked folks to get to the site via Steve's homepage.
Which they can do, but I have to direct them to whatever-thread (which takes time).
And most of them give up, coz they're about my age (almost 55) and are Putr Dummies.
Anyways, thanks again,

I checked back with a few folks.I wrote:If I'm not mistaken, I have asked folks to get to the site via Steve's homepage.

Just one replied, who could get to Steve's homepage and on to the Forum (from there).
Yet they still couldn't get to the Forum from direct links I provided.
So I tried http://tinyurl.com/ -- (making a 'tiny URL' thread link for them, which worked).
In any event, I'm still curious how many people might not be able to get on the Forum.
Since no Admins have replied, I'll assume it's not a problem for folks coming from Steve's homepage.
I leave by adding: About 50% of the folks I've linked to specific threads can't get to them.
In the meantime, I'll keep using 'tinyurl' . . . as I ponder getting busy on my own blog! Thanks,

No one has had problems getting to an 'old forum' post I've linked to (a great one, too)!
(Namely),Compatibility Considerations Before Marriage.
So, I'm thinking about actively blogging...but anyways.....

Not sure why there would be trouble, except that the URLs are pretty long and some folks' copy/paste practices may not be perfect, and some browsers and email apps can break long URLs (which may be why the tinurl works for you).
I've not had any trouble with it -- maybe the forum you're posting to chops them up. Point me to an example where you've posted a link and it doesn't work and I'll check it out.

Yes -- I've (now) learned that where I've been pasting links: they've been getting chopped off.
(Was posting them in both chats and private messages where this happened).
Thus, I'll keep using tinyURL to solve that.
It seems like some may have had problems getting here from where I posted on another forum (@ Theologica). When I've posted there, I made links-with-title and can't recall if anyone had problems getting-to-here. I'll test it next time I link.
So basically, "Houston, we may not have a problem."
Thanks, Darin

Using quotation marks can also help sometimes.

I had Daniel Eaton, a Theologica mod and former poster on Steve's forums, (and who is possibly still a member?), test-a-link. It worked. I used tinyURL to do it.
'Looks like we have the 'all-clear' now.
Thanks!
