organic church

I would love to hear some of your comments on those of you who know what an organic church is.

And how it relates biblically to the first churches of old ( so to speak). I have heard and read alot about them lately and they interest me,but I don't want to get involved in some kind of a cult system, especially with a background from early 1982 being in a covenant/sheparding church cult system

I'm not familiar with the term "organic church". Can you elaborate please? In the meantime I'll do a bit of internet searching.

Hi Perry There are groups I have read regarding this movement online that seem to be connected to "home churches" I am wondering if it is just a new term for home churches?

Two friends I know went to a meeting regarding being part of one and it seemed to be layed out like a home church ( which seem to vary in their style)but they used the word organic. That is about all I know of them as of now.

Part of my family is very into organics as a way of lifestyle in clothing and foods( I am also) , so it interested me because of for that too.

I was wondering if I could also encourage them to "go" to an organic church, maybe even with me !.......haha.

Thanks for the explanation Glow. (Sorry I haven't done any research on "organic churches" yet.)

When I think of "organic" I think of that which is living... (i.e. composed of organs... an organism... etc). In this sense the church, and by "church" I mean the full body of all Christians, is definately organinc.

I'll use the word "fellowship" to refer to a smaller subset of the "church".

I don't have any experience with home fellowships, although I have been involved in home bible studies from time to time. My own fellowship is so small that it is probably more of a home fellowship... we just happen to have a building available to us. We have maybe 13 to 16 people show up on a good day.

I can see how some folks my prefer a smaller, more intimate fellowship (I know I do), whereas some might prefer the ananomity of a large mega-fellowship.

I would say that in small home fellowships, you have a great potential for individual expression, which may be a mixed blessing. I'm not sure what mechanism you use to make sure things stay biblically grounded and Christ centered.

I know that Derek is part of a home fellowship. Perhaps he will chime in.

This stream-of-conciousness rambling probably doesn't help.

At least I don't see red flags they are cults. I suppose though any church can be if it gets off the narrow path into un Godly territory. I have certainly experienced some of that in the past.

Hope you enjoy your day out there in Gods beautiful creation!
