They're probably trying to get people's attention with Star Wars language
But DESTINY does appear 6 times in the NIV. However, I'd say the context seems to be quite a negative thing...unlike what you were hearing. Then, of course, you have to consider the word 'preDESTINED'
Job 8:13
Such is the destiny of all who forget God; so perishes the hope of the godless.
Psalm 73:17
till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny.
Ecclesiastes 7:2
It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart.
Ecclesiastes 9:3
This is the evil in everything that happens under the sun: The same destiny overtakes all. The hearts of men, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live, and afterward they join the dead.
Isaiah 65:11
"But as for you who forsake the LORD and forget my holy mountain, who spread a table for Fortune and fill bowls of mixed wine for Destiny,
Philippians 3:19
Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things.
