Post by _dexter » Tue Dec 12, 2006 9:57 pm

Hi,

Which historical books that is outside the bible would you guys/gals recommend for me to use when studying the life of Antaxerxes, Nebuchadnezzar, Nebopalasar, Alexander the great , Pharoah Neco, Ptolemy and so on? I would appreciate your suggestions.

One thing I find useful is to type the topic into the Amazon book search and read the reviews. One thing leads to another, then there are book lists there that people have submitted - problem is it can get so interesting you are online for an age. Have fun.

I got the Archaeology Study Bible for my birthday last year, and I have found it to be very helpful in this area. The whole thing is full color, with pictures of all kinds of acient artifacts and great articles.

Instead of being theological in nature, all of the notes are historical/archaeological. Very cool.

Here's a link. http://www.archaeologicalstudybible.com/

The text is NIV, but I don't use the text, so it's no big deal to me. I highly recommend it.

Hi, dexter,

For what it is worth, in studying the Hebrew bible, you might want to check out the set below:

http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/ ... em_code=WW

http://www.amazon.com/Civilizations-Anc ... F8&s=books

(For the description, check out Amazon, but for price, you'd want CBD.)

Shalom,
Emmet
