Have we reversed the milk and the meat?

Unfortunately, I have seen many churches that are trying to draw
in a crowd through light sermons. I am thankful for Times Square
Church and a few other churches that are not afraid to teach deeper
truth's because they trust God for the person's outcome.

Murf referenced the following verses
1Co 3:1-3 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
Heb 5:11-14 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskillfull in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
DJeaton, I’ve often wondered if we're missing the point as well. In the two verses that Murf quoted above, it seems to be referring to meat eaters as those who practice the word of God. The milk drinkers seem to be those who are either carnal (not practicing the word) and/or who are new Christians who have not had an extended opportunity to live God’s word.

Another verse to consider is in 1 Peter. He seems to also imply that growth from milk to meat would include putting off various works of the flesh.

1Pe 2:1 So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.
1Pe 2:2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation--
1Pe 2:3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Jesus also consider it “meat” to DO God’s will

Joh 4:34 Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.

The context of these verses has made me seriously wonder as well, about how we use the term “meat of the word”. I’m not conviced that it’s as simple as understanding “deeper” meanings in the scripture. I haven’t drawn any conclusions about the meaning but the practice of God’s word certainly seems to be intertwined with term. imo

Absolutely Homer. You hit it on the head. I have an article I have wrote about this, but I need to edit it a bit. Just yesterday I listened to a sermon called "understand what", which is entirely about this subject. It's one of those sermons I feel you have to have in your collection. To listen to it, go here and you can find it by clicking on: Hebrews 11:3 Guest Speaker: Chad Craig "Understand What?"
