Books
Schoel, I think you sent that e-mail to an expired account of mine. I'll put up a new e-mail in a bit, or, if you could list some things here for a 2 and 6 year old. We like outdoors stuff, animals (including Allyn), and discovering the wuirky little places of areas we visit. Also, we like visiting "the main thing" of a particular tourist spot. Any Eiffel towers in Denver?
Thanks, bro.

Hey JD,
I grew up in Denver (but now I live in Seattle). Here are my recommendations:
1. Boulder (especially Pearl St.)
2. Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre
3. Estes Park (supposedly the inspiration for the song "America the Beautiful")
4. Elitches (if you like amusement parks)
5. Ocean Voyage (if you like aquariums)
Beyond that, it depends on what you're into. If you like shopping, Cherry Creek is a nice place. If you're into books, you'll love The Tattered Cover bookstore in Cherry Creek.

JD - this is "Animal"
I live only 1/2 a days drive from Denver and have taken many trips there. But, besides the usual things like the museum, the zoo, the amusement park, ball games, Malls, flea markets, I can't think of a thing to do in Denver. We usually go on up to Winter Park, which is about 70 miles up via I70 and then Hiway 40 (I think). Anyway, Winter Park is a great place for the whole family. It has the best Alpine slide and many other fun activities and the scenery is out of this world. You can also go over the Trail Ridge Road from there (Makes sure you have good brakes) and down into Estes Park.
Just up the road from Winter Park is Fraiser. It is has two great trout ponds with free fishing and plenty of biking trails and Horse trails.
BTW, I could get you set up with a condo at Fraiser. You would love it. The prices are cheaper than staying at a motel and it has full services - including pools, hot tubs, Tennis.

Getting back to books...
For me it is probably "Passion for the Heart of God" by John Zumwalt.
A close second would be "Heavenly Man" by Brother Yun.
I've really enjoyed a lot of books, but these two probably actually impacted my life and walk with the Lord more than any others.

Hey gys, thanks for the suggestions. Sorry for turning into a Denver thread. We will try and experience at least a couple of those places.
The book that has helped me a lot in the past years is Divine Conspiracy by Dallas Willard. He thinks on a C.S. Lewis level, in my opnion.

We break from normal programming for this special announcement
------------------------------------------------
JD:
I have a 3.5 year old and here's what he likes to do:
1) The Denver Zoo.
2) The Children's museum
3) The Glenwood Springs pool - This is a town about 3 hours west of Denver. There is a gigantic, hot springs pool that is good for all day swimming.
4) Pikes Peak (about an hour south of Denver) - you can drive to the top.
Some other thoughts:
- Elitch's (used to be locally owned, now owned by Six Flags) is expensive. Another option that is cheaper (although a little more ghetto) is a local amusement park called Lakeside
- Make sure everyone is drinking lots of water and don't go to hard. Because of the altitude (5280 feet above sea level in Denver), people from out of town get dehydrated and sick from altitude fairly easily.
- You can get a sunburn in Colorado faster and easier.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
And now, back to the book discussion.

Shoel,
Is Lakeside still around? Man! Do they still have the Wild Chipmunk? What made those rides so scary was how rickety they were!
Good call on the Museum and Children's Museum. I forgot how cool those are.
JD,
I've been hearing over and over for a couple of years now what a fantastic book "The Divine Conspiracy" is. I've got a copy but haven't been able to get into it yet.
A few more book suggestions:
N.T. Wright:
The Challenge of Jesus
Following Jesus (Biblical Reflections on Discipleship)
Brian McLaren:
A New Kind of Christian
The Story We Find Ourselves In
The Last Word (and the Word After That)
The Secret Message of Jesus

schoel,
I think we'll just come over to your place and sit on your roof. Hey, uh, what's the weather like in Parker, from season to season? I saw that Denver was in the top 10 for both sunniest days, and most snow. Whoa.
Back to the books. Willrad's book is one where I had to read sentences a few times, not because he isn't clear, but because he is a really deep thinker.
I liked Prophetic Untimleiness by Os Guinness as well.
Mort, you a McClaren guy? Oh boy, there's hotter places in...just kidding. A New Kind of Christian and Church on the Other Side were great, and I got to see him speak once. Really good guy.

I have heard nothing but negative things about McLaren. Why are people so upset about him and why do you guys like him? (I haven't read any of the books... I read Blue Like Jazz... is it similar?)
