Steve G's travel logistics

Post by _TK » Sat Sep 23, 2006 4:30 pm

I was noting Steve's speaking schedule (both current and in prior months) and one thing that i cant really figure out is how he does it. I believe Steve lives in oregon, but many of his speaking engagements are in santa cruz, ca, twice a week i believe. isnt that a long way from Oregon? does he drive? fly?

does anyone know the answer to this conundrum? (obviously, steve, if you read this feel free).

i dont mean to be nosy-- just curious. i wished l lived a lot closer so that i could listen to you in person. your teaching has been a huge blessing.

I think he moved to Santa Cruz within the past year, but I'm not sure.

Hi TK,

Sorry for the confusion. I did move to Santa Cruz about a year ago, and didn't realize that my profile still said I was in McMinnville. I have corrected that now.

When I lived in Idaho (after McMinnville) for a year, I used to drive 17 hours to the Santa Cruz area each month, in order to speak in my regular places, then drive to Oregon to speak on may way back to Idaho. It was very grueling, but there was not much ministry to do in Idaho, so I had to travel.

My ministry has been an itinerant one much of the past 35 years. I now live in Santa Cruz. I teach here every week, and also hold monthly meetings here and in nearby Salinas. When I teach in Oregon, these days, I fly, rather than drive. It is actually cheaper to fly and rent a car in Oregon than it would be to drive (which would also take 12 hours each way). When I teach for YWAM anywhere, they fly me there.

The biggest logistics problem for me traveling anymore is that I am the single father of a teenaged son, who lives with me. I have always had to find someone to look after him when I am gone. Also, I need to limit the time I spend away from him, because he needs me to be available. In a couple of years he will be out of high school, and I will be more mobile again, probably.

I had the opportunity to go to many of Steve Gregg's teachings
either in a home or church facility...He is a great teacher and
always has shown a humble attitude while teaching.

thanks for the clarification, steve. maybe someday you'll teach in NE ohio. if you ever do, may i suggest a season other than winter, unless you like snow, and lots of it.

Generally I go wherever I am invited, unless prior commitments (like family) prevent it, or I receive some kind of clear sense that it is not what God would have me do. Ohio is fine with me.

Hey Steve,

What would it cost me to get you here to Richland, to give a bible study? I will provide anything you need. Me and Derek have discussed this. You can stay here at my house, me and my wife will provide food and anything else you will need.

You can bring your son if you would like. We have room for him too.

So what say ye?

I don't know how far you are from Atlanta, but flights between here and there, at this moment, can be gotten for about $350. That would be the total cost to you in getting me there. Of course, I don't charge anything, so, if accommodations are free, there is no cost above that of airfare.

The main issue would be scheduling. It would work best in a month when I am not already scheduled to be gone from home much. My son is weary of travel and prefers to stay home these days. At age 15, he is all right with being left alone, but I like to limit the amount of time that am away from him. Weekends are the best time for me to travel, as such travel does not interfere with the radio broadcast. However, I can do things in the midweek as well.

Frankly, I am weary of travel as well, but I consider that it is a part of my "job description." I enjoy ministering to groups I have not previously met, and meeting people with whom I have spoken but never seen face-to-face. Any arrangements you wish to make can be communicated best by using this email address for me: s_gregg7225@yahoo.com
