I have been asked to tell the "Easter story" this Saturday for several groups of kids ages 3-12 yrs, and I thought I would poll the group for ideas about telling this story to kids. I don't teach kids very often. Adults are easier for me.

Is it really the Easter story you want to tell the children? Or is it the resurrection story?

If it's the Easter story you want to tell, you'll have to go to pagan sources for information. I consider the following site to have accurate information on the origin of Easter:

I say "Easter story" (in quotes) because that is what I was asked to tell by the person coordinating the event at the church I have been attending. I am at liberty to do what I want with that. I am inclined to focus on the resurrection story. The question then is how to "package" it for this age group. What would give it some impact and meaning? Mel Gibson did it by making it gruesome. Somehow this doesn’t seem appropriate with the younger kids. I’m just looking for learnings from others who may have done something like this in the past.

There are many good books on this from publishers like Zondervan and Nelson kids. We have a few that we read to our kids (though their titles escape me at the moment).

I personally wouldn't try to re-invent the wheel.

I would advise you to keep it short, simple, and fun.

Short because you have a limited attention span with kids.

Simple because they are kids and sometimes we forget to define even the simplest of terms.

Fun because kids like to have fun and will remember a story more if you involve them and have some sort of visuals.

You can look online for ideas or check with your local CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship) office. CEF has tons of stuff.

ages 3-12 is a wide gap...I would speak to these children as I would an adult....I did with my children and it turned out alright. I would
read out of the BIBLE...
