Being new in the faith, and reading the bible and listening to am radio (with many preachers) there is a lot of talk about escatology.

I know it is something that should not divide us, but something that should be discussed. However, it is so central to just about every teaching you hear these days.

After about a year of hearing about the escatology, from mostly all of them...Dr. Hank Linstrom (stout believer in the Scofield Bible, and one of the first ones I bought), Dr. Albert Mohler, Charles Stanley, Raul Reece, Charles McCarther, Danny Hodges, and Adrian Rodgers.... to bring up a few, all of them...all teach the disponsationalist view, if not every precher on the am radio I listen to. Hank Hanegraaff doenst play anymore, so ya all of them.

I heard Steve Gregg on the Hank Hanegraaff show, and my eyes were opened up to something I know was right for escatology. I have always been interested in ancient history and studying the bible.

My question is how can I, as a new person in the faith, seem to understand what I think renowned preachers and Dr.'s don't?

I think that's an interesting question. To get the conversation started, I'll say this. You actually have an advantage as a new believer in this area b/c you don't have a pre-commitment to a certain brand of eschatology. A lot of the guys you mentioned probably grew up dispensationalists. It's very difficult for humans to change, and that, of course, includes Christians. It's especially difficult to change viewpoints when you've published on or been recorded teaching a certain view.

My question is how can I, as a new person in the faith, seem to understand what I think renowned preachers and Dr.'s don't?


Because it's a complex issue that takes a lot of time to really understand all the way through. In the OT there are passages that sound like a millenium period and then in Rev the actual phrase is used. But by looking through the eyes of the writers of the NT it sounds like they had no idea about a milleneum and their eyes were opened by Jesus concerning all that was said about him in the OT. (Luke 24.43)

I feel for you, I really do. I know the difficulty you're facing right now and it's real.

I don't even know where to begin with this, because I know how vast this problem is. I know once you start really thinking this through, the questions become almost endless with sometimes more confusion.

When I first came to the Lord, I went to Raul's church and listened to all those guys on the radio and Stanely (whom I still love) was one of my favorites.

To try and make things simple:

I think one of the things that really helped me, was understanding, not all Dr.'s believe those things. Not only that, but most of church history hasn't either.

I don't know... there is so much I want to say, I'll let the discussion continue and come in when I see fit.
