While I realize that this may be something of a personal question, I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced what they would call a "vision" of the Lord, or something along those lines. I do not want to include dreams here, but am more interested in anyone's experience of a "waking" vision. If you have not personally experienced this, but know someone who has, I would like to hear that as well.

The reason I ask? My wife says she had a very vivid vision during our worship service 2 weeks ago (it really shook her) and so now I am curious. These things don't ever seem to happen to me.

I was once on a road trip with some friends and we crashed at a motel. During the night my friend, who was unable to sleep, heard someone talking to him and he thought it was me. When he looked he saw that I was sound asleep. Then he heard it again. This time he continued facing us and after a few moments he saw some kind of dancing light beams or light particles, going in and out of people.

My friend was unusally quiet the next day and I kept asking him if something was wrong. Finally he tried, as best he could, to describe what he saw. This friend of mine is not exactly reliable but he was clearly shaken up about something the next morning. This guy is not a Christian so I have no idea what he saw or heard that night. And if he made the story up, I'm not sure what he stood to gain from it.

I've never seen a vision myself but there are lots of people in the Muslim world who've seen visions of Jesus and sound quite real. I'd accept these testimonies readily as it almost always leads to a conversion, which carries a real threat of alienation and death. I've had close Muslim friends and know the cost of converting to Christianity. It's a price that no one would be willing to pay apart from a true experience with God.

A number of years ago, a sister stood up in the assembly of saints and described what she was presently seeing in a vision. I have forgotten what she saw, but it related to a situation or need in the assembly.

One time as I was sitting in the assembly, I felt an arm around my shoulder. I looked back but saw no one. Then I felt the arm again. I reached back to where I felt the arm, but there was no arm there. I was clearly puzzled. Then, immediately, one of the elders got up and put his arm around my shoulder. He told me later that God had told him to do so. I do not know for sure what God's purpose was, but at the time I felt that He was trying to comfort me.
