Denominational Flavors??

I understand that some on here do not belong to a certain denomination of church but others do.
I was just wondering what denomination you all are...
I am especially curious to know where Steve attends, or if he's a pastor, or an evangelist, or if he even goes to a certain denomination of church.

I attend the East Side Church of God in Evansville, Indiana. We are a CLeveland, TN headquarter Church of God, not Anderson, Indiana. We are classic pentecostal. We are not the legalistic pentecostal, but we do believe in holiness. We are not the type that disapproves of women having short hair and/or wearing pants. We do believe the gifts of the Spirit are still in operation today and the Lord is pouring out His Spirit now in these final days (I know some will object to those last 4 words, but oh well ).

Just curious about some of your different backgrounds. Also if you do not attend a Church, what is it that you do to gather together with other brothers and sisters in the Lord?

I most recently attended a United Methodist congregation until the DS told us to go by the Methodist Doctrine rather than a Bible teaching that contradicted his teaching. Since then, we have studied at home and I discuss the Bible with others as they are customers at my business. We are considering having some informal Bible studies in two locations.

I was raised fundamentalist, legalistic, dispensationalist, KJV-Only Independant Baptist...with a healthy dose of condemnation thrown in just to keep things objective. Since then, most of the churches that I have been a member of have been Southern Baptist, or non-denominaitonal with basic Baptist doctrine. Because of my current medical situation, I can no longer attend. So, I have "church" with Casting Crown leading the worship and Steve preaching in my headphones right now. I also really like the expository sermon series of Richard Caldwell on SermonAudio.com.

I guess I'm "post-denomination" and "post-Evangelical" at this point. I attended Vineyard (and Vineyard-style) churches for many years. For the last few years I was part of a house church that has come to an end. Presently I interact with a couple of different local churches (some charismatic, some not) - mainly helping out with worship, but don't consider myself a member of any of them. I also conduct services at the local jail, where my "congregation" is from a variety of denominational backgrounds. As far as settling in to a church, I'm trying to figure out where I fit or whether I should plant one.

My wife and I attend a home fellowship with around 13-14 people. We do not have a pastor although I guess leadership is implied by the oldest wisest among us who have known the Lord a long time though we have never discussed it.

We generally worship, pray, take communion and study through the bible. We often share a meal as well. We usually take communion each meeting, but the other things are led by the Spirit. Sometimes we take the whole time to pray or sometimes sing etc...


We model our fellowship on Act 2:42 which is: "And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers."

We have a variety of beliefs about non-essentials however I think we would all be loosely considered charismatic.

My wife and I also fellowship at a Weslyan Pentacostal church some too. We know the pastors there very well and enjoy the fellowship. I do not however, hold to traditional pentacostal beliefs such as the initial evidence doctrine although I do speek in tongues.

When I go home to NC I usually fellowship at my moms Southern Baptist Church. Personally, I don't have any real doctrinal hobby horses that would keep me from fellowship with anyone. I just want to pursue righteousness faith love and peace along with those that <i>call on the Lord out of a pure heart.</i>

What exactly are their beliefs? I don't think there's alot of those churches around my area.

Terri and I stumbled into a little known church when we moved to Springfield. It's called The Disciples of Christ and has been around since the 1800's.

WHAT WE BELIEVE: The basics

One God in three persons--Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The deity of Jesus Christ, the one and only Son of God, who was born of a virgin, who lived a sinless life, who died for our sins, who rose bodily from the grave and ascended to heaven, and who will one day return in glory and power.

The ministry of the Holy Spirit within every believer, empowering for witness and service, and providing spiritual gifts to every Christian.

The verbal inspiration of the entire Bible as God's infallible revelation to mankind.

The one true universal church, the body of Christ, consisting of all believers throughout the world, whose head is Jesus Christ.

Salvation by faith in Christ alone, without works of merit, solely by the grace of God. Those accepting God's free gift of salvation must turn to Christ alone to save them by repenting of sin, confessing the name of Christ, and being baptized into Him.

The resurrection of the body: eternal glory for all believers in Heaven, and everlasting punishment for unbelievers in Hell.

When telling our assoc. Pastor before joining that we believed every promise in the Bible has been fulfilled in the past except our Lord's second coming, he said that he also was of the opinion that Satan has been chained since the Cross and that our views are welcome along with the most dedicated dispensationalist.

Pretty amazing, eh? And the best part is the love in this place that is seen and felt and understood by all who come there.
