Types and Shadows....

Post by Mazx67 » Mon Jan 05, 2009 12:01 am

Types and Shadows still confuse me a bit. I have a general understandment of what they mean..ie.., pointing towards Christ in an ultimate fullfillment. I was wondering if someone could list the major Types and Shadows stated in the Old Testament?

Man o' man, there are a tremendous number to list! I started a thread on what some of the symbols of the sanctuary represented: The Symbolism of the Sanctuary.

Here's a couple of study's that I think will assist you in your search:

Israel and The Exodus

Mazx67 here's another resource that should hopefully be another assist.

The Cross And Its Shadow - By Stephen N. Haskell (1914 Edition)

Enjoy!

Thank you for those replys, I will study them. How about this one; I was listening to one of the Bible Answer man's programs (Hank Hanegrafe) and a caller asked about a time frame difference in Jesus' teachings in Mathew and parallel texts, for a time division between the descriptions of the coming, "destruction of Jerusalem" and the descriptions of the actually second coming of Christ. From what I understood what he said, the description of the destruction of Jerusalem, was not actually a type or shadow, but all the info Jesus gave could be forwarded to the same description of what it would be for, for the actually end/second coming..not sure if I got his explanation right. I have listened to Steve's teachings and I hold a lot of beliefs by them. As far as I understand in this subject, he delineates a distinct time difference from the destruction of Jerusalem and the second coming of Christ. Any thoughts on this?

Hope you find those studies interesting and informative Mazx67.

I have thoughts on lots of things if you've been reading some of the other threads. My personal belief is that Matthew 24 and 25 are describing the general state of the world for both Jesus' second coming and the destruction of Jerusalem in 70AD. I would also agree that Jesus' description was not a type or shadow as related to other prophecies in the Bible, but that's just me. Others may find verses in the prophets that correlate with a belief that the verses involve the destruction of Jerusalem. Generally I have found this line of thinking with dispensationalists.
